
Bryan retired from directing bands in 2010, after being involved in music education for 35 years. He was the Head of Fine Arts and Director of Bands at Killarney Secondary School in Vancouver from 1981 until he retired. He has conducted the bands for the Sumer Music Institute at the University of British Columbia since 1993.
He has been Head of Music while teaching in Australia, vice-principal, vice-president of the Vancouver Music Teachers’ Association and the Music Associate for the Vancouver School Board. He continues to adjudicate music festivals and conduct at clinics and retreats.
While Bryan was teaching at Killarney, the school had one of the largest and finest music programs in Canada with over 1,000 students enrolled in Band, Choir, Strings and Music Technology. His groups have always received the highest awards and honors as a model band program in BC and Canada. The Killarney groups toured extensively and have performed throughout the world in such places as: The Vatican (Rome), The Duomo (Florence), St. Maria Cathedral (Sienna), The Heidelberg Castle (Germany), MusicFest Canada, Rocky Mountain Festival, World Music Olympics (Los Angeles), the Beijing International Music Festival (2004) hosted by the Chinese Government and numerous National Television appearances in Canada and China.
Bryan has organized, hosted and performed in more than 80 music festivals in his career. He has sponsored 56 student teachers from the different universities.
